Deity Quetzalcoatl

Quetzalcoatl

Among all the ancient powers worshipped throughout the jungles and volcanic mountains of Myrithbenzal, none are spoken of with more mystery or reverence than Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent. To the people of the rain forests, he is more than a god of wind or wisdom. He is the keeper of balance itself, the spirit tied to the stars, the skies, the breath of life, and the ancient laws that once held civilization together before the world began to fracture beneath corruption and war.

The oldest stories claim Quetzalcoatl descended from the heavens long before the first cities rose from the jungle valleys. According to legend, he arrived during an age when the land was covered in endless storms and volcanic fire. The tribes of the ancient world fought constantly for survival, scattered among the forests and rivers with little knowledge beyond hunting and war. The Feathered Serpent descended from the sky wrapped in emerald light and taught the people how to build, write, calculate the movements of the stars, and live in balance with the sacred forces of the world.

Because of this, many believe Quetzalcoatl is responsible for the rise of civilization itself within Myrithbenzal.

Unlike the brutal war cults devoted to Huitzilopochtli or the secretive drowned priesthoods of Chalchiuhtlicue, the followers of Quetzalcoatl traditionally served as scholars, astronomers, judges, scribes, and spiritual guides. His temples were places of learning rather than conquest. Priests recorded celestial movements upon carved stone tablets while great observatories were built high above the jungle canopy to study eclipses, stars, and sacred alignments.

The Feathered Serpent represents balance above all things. His followers believe the world survives only when fire, water, sky, and earth remain in harmony. If one force dominates the others, corruption spreads through the land. Many scholars of Myrithbenzal believe the growing darkness across the jungle stems from this balance failing over centuries of sacrifice, greed, and forbidden rituals.

The temples dedicated to Quetzalcoatl are among the most beautiful structures found anywhere within the world. Most stand upon elevated jungle plateaus or hidden volcanic cliffs where the winds blow constantly through massive stone corridors. Great stairways lined with serpent carvings rise toward observatories capped in jade and gold. Feather mosaics cover sacred halls while polished mirrors reflect sunlight through narrow temple passages during equinoxes and celestial events.

Even abandoned temples tied to the Feathered Serpent still feel strangely alive.

Warm wind moves through silent chambers where no openings should exist. Ancient bells chime softly during storms despite hanging untouched for centuries. Explorers often report the unsettling feeling of being watched by unseen eyes deep within the ruins. Unlike many corrupted temples across Myrithbenzal, the sanctuaries of Quetzalcoatl rarely feel openly evil. Instead they feel ancient, intelligent, and impossibly patient.

The priests of Quetzalcoatl wore elaborate feathered cloaks dyed in emerald green, turquoise, gold, and white. Jade jewelry decorated their arms and necks while ceremonial masks shaped like serpent faces concealed their identities during sacred rituals. These priests acted not only as spiritual leaders but as keepers of history and law. Entire generations relied upon them to settle disputes, track seasons, predict volcanic activity, and guide communities through famine or drought.

The Feathered Serpent is strongly tied to the sky and wind throughout every aspect of worship. Sacred songs are performed upon high terraces where mountain winds carry prayers into the heavens. Giant feather banners hang from temple towers while carved wind tunnels produce haunting sounds during storms. Some ancient writings claim Quetzalcoatl himself speaks through these winds, offering warnings or guidance to those wise enough to listen.

Yet beneath the wisdom and beauty tied to the Feathered Serpent lies something far more unsettling.

Many forgotten texts suggest Quetzalcoatl is not merely a passive god of knowledge. He is an ancient cosmic force capable of terrifying destruction when balance is threatened. Some myths describe entire cities buried beneath volcanic ash after defying sacred law. Others speak of feathered serpents descending from black storm clouds to consume priests corrupted by greed and sacrifice.

Because of this, Quetzalcoatl is respected as much as he is worshipped.

His followers believe wisdom without balance becomes arrogance. Power without restraint becomes corruption. Knowledge pursued for selfish gain invites divine punishment. These teachings shaped the civilizations of Myrithbenzal for centuries before rival cults and endless warfare slowly fractured the old order.

Deep beneath the largest temples dedicated to Quetzalcoatl lie chambers few living priests dare enter. Ancient stairways descend beneath the pyramids into volcanic caverns lined with serpent carvings older than recorded history. Some explorers claim these lower sanctuaries contain glowing crystals that pulse like living hearts. Others speak of massive feathered skeletons hidden beneath obsidian altars.

The most feared legend surrounding Quetzalcoatl tells of the Dreaming Coil.

According to surviving fragments of sacred text, the true form of the Feathered Serpent does not fully reside within the mortal world. Instead, part of the god sleeps beneath the deepest temples of Myrithbenzal, dreaming beneath the volcanic roots of the mountains. The priests believed these dreams influenced storms, seasons, and even the fate of entire civilizations.

If the Dreaming Coil ever fully awakens, many fear the balance of the world itself may shatter.

Even now, travelers crossing the jungles of Myrithbenzal sometimes report strange sights during violent storms. Massive shapes twisting through black clouds. Emerald eyes watching from ruined pyramids. Winds carrying whispers in forgotten languages through the rain forests at night.

Whether these are merely stories or signs of the Feathered Serpent stirring once more, few are willing to discover the truth for themselves.
