EverQuest Druid 101 Book of Raiding

!! Disclaimer !!

These are my personal opinions on how to play Druid. I am not a wizard of words nor a paladin of math. If you sense something may be incorrect or just plain wrong. Be constructive. I already hate myself for maining the damn class. I dare you to give me a reason to enjoy it. I FUCKING DARE YOU! And for the love of Tunare’s tits – understand you are not a DPS (Not yet.) Hell… we barely get by being a Healer. But we get pretty damn close.  You chose this life. Now load up them healing spells, set your Extended Targets, and stare into a loved one’s eyes as we go deep into Playing a Druid.

Get Max Level (Currently 75)

Don’t spend a lot of time gearing yourself while leveling. The newly unlocked “Defiant” gear will carry you to cap and will be quickly replaced by gear rotting on corpses in high-level zones and raid bosses.

Get Your Spells

Spells are available to purchase from a vendor in Plane of Knowledge in the big ass building in the middle of the map. Spell Vendors will sell spells up to 3 expansions before the current expansion. Confused? Me too. Example: Mischief is currently in The Serpent’s Spine expansion. Minus 3 expansions, brings us back to Dragons of Norrath. Spell Vendors will have all spells for purchase up to Dragons of Norrath. Need a Guide for quested spells?

Get to Know Your Spells

This will take some trial and error.  Being good at almost everything, but being a master of none, literally makes Druid’s Spell Book look like a dumpster fire.  Learn to navigate the Spell Gem drop-down menu. This menu can be accessed by Right-Clicking on an empty spell gem. Having this knowledge will be extremely helpful later, when we talk about Spell Set macros
(Yer gonna love it!)

My Personal Spell Sets

Self Buffs

*Where the hell is SoW/DENA?!
Get a bard speed mount for fucks sake!

*But what if I’m in a dungeon that doesn’t allow mounts?!

Cap out Innate Run Speed AA like everyone else!

Raid Buffs

*Uhhhh, what about Regen, Thorns, Seasons, Strength, and Eagles?! Listen… I know how you feel. Thorns are extra damage and Regen is extra healing. The shit thing is, they take up a buff slot.  And there are WAYYYYYY more important buffs out there to be had. Let the Shamans do the Strength buff.  If a Regen is requested, Shaman’s (currently) have the best Regen. Protection of Seasons is niche and fuck Eagles. Levitation generally sucks when raiding. Occasionally, a Levi will be requested, but our wonderful Necros can MGB DMF.
Main Raid Spell Set
Pure Life Rk. III - Our go-to Healing spell.  It’s well balanced for healing done and mana cost.  Dubbed THE spammable heal, if need be.
Adrenaline Surge Rk. III - The mana cost is a good kick in the taint, so only cast this as a “OH SHIT!” button.
Skin of the Reptile - Only cast it on Tanks. The procs build aggro. It helps heal. Especially on knights. This is a MUST HAVE scroll. No “If’s-And’s-or-But’s” about it.
Moonshadow - Our very first Group Heal! Make raid life easier and have this ready. This helps stabilize your group after AoE Damage.
Direwood Guard Rk. II - Healing builds hate. Mobs hate healers. And you probably don’t have the AA’s to withstand a pounding from Big Dick Rick and his 99 adds. You will die less with this spell on your bar. This will give the tanks 12+ seconds to peel adds off you.

Interchangeable Raid spells

Cure me, bro!

Below are how many Counters the listed Cure will remove.
Now all you have to do is math.
Chant of the Napaea Rk. I, II, III - Removes 2, 3, 4 Corruption counters respectively.
Remove Greater Curse -  Removes 9 Curse counters.
Pure Blood - Removes 9 Poison & Disease counters simultaneously.
Being of the Healer variety, we are required to Cure some ailments during Raids. Why? I don’t have the answer you want to hear. Nevertheless, become aware of your Cure Spells. Take note of how many Counters a debuff will have and apply simple math to figure out how many times you will have to cast a Cure. If you have a maxed out Radiant Cure AA, you might be able to weave that in to make Curing easier. More about Weaving Spells later.

Misc Spells

This is our resurrection spell. If you intend on casting this during raids, I HIGHLY recommend making a macro for it. Two reasons. 1. Some gamers have made the decision to not purchase the “No De-Level” perk from the DB store and will bitch and moan if they don’t get a 96% rez. And 2, NEVER, and I mean NEVER-EVER, waste a Cleric’s time. Hell hath no fury for a Cleric’s scorn for double casted resurrections.
You might be thinking to yourself, “Where are all my 1337 damage spells?”

****Debuff Druid ACTIVATE!****

Enter the part of the guide where we start talking about numbers.  Numbers that affect the output of damage.  Numbers that actually make our debuff spells worth casting. There are 5, I repeat, 5 debuffs druids can cast.  If you have been given the debuff role, it would be safe to assume keeping the listed spells active is your role. Now……. MATH!
HOT DAMN!

Look at those numbers! You did that! You! The Debuff Druid! Take note of how much ATTACK and AC has been removed. At first glance, it doesn’t seem like much. Lest you forget, these will stack with other debuff spells (not with other Druid’s.)

For being a tree hugging, animal petting, adorable naturewalker, druids LOVE Fire! Imagine being of the caring nature, but burning down anyone’s house if they fuck with the animals.  BURN IT ALL! “Smurfo takes a deep breath…

Phew, almost lost me there.  Below are the Debuff Spells required by any debuffing druid.
Skin to Vines Rk. II - Fast Casting and allows Fire Spells to stick to mobs that would normally be highly resistant to. Will not stick to Pure Fire Mobs.
Hand of Ro - Fast Casting and highly unresistable. Recommended as an early cast to start lowering Fire Resist, allowing our next spells to stick on first cast.
Blistering Sunray Rk. II - A debuff with some damage attached to it.
Sun’s Corona - This one gets resisted the most, hence why it is the last one casted.
Icefall Breath - Whoa! A different element?! Yes. And that’s because it contributes to removing AC from our targets!  Rarely gets resisted, to boot! (There is a Rank II with an additional -2 AC and -1 Cold Resist.) Will not stick to Pure Ice Mobs.
^ Mob’s Debuff Bar ^
If you see these icons on the mob’s debuff bar, you are pushing it to the limit! You are maxing out the full potential of druid debuffs!
Yay!
Do you need a Rotation? Just go right down the list. Starting with Vines and ending with Icefall.

Raid AA’s

This section is so important, that I am FORCED to use Comic Sans. I didn’t make the rules. It hurts me just as much as it hurts you. To numb the pain, below is an At-Glance view of the AA window and what the gamer should familiarize themselves with.
FILTERS - Use these 3 drop-down menus to organize your AA’s.

First box
Can Activate:  Selecting this will show only the AA’s that you can activate via Hotkey.  VERY USEFUL and a wonderful time saver.
Passive:  Selecting this will show only the AA’s that are active at all times. No need for a macro or hotkey.

Second box
This box sorts your AA’s by Expansion.  Useful once you are caught up to the current expansion’s AA. Or, you know what you are looking for in a certain expansion.

Third box
Item Effect:  Want to know what ‘clickies’ are active? Do you need to manage your clicky effects, so’s not to overwrite one that you prefer?
Item Effect is what you want.Everything else, well, is garbage.

UNLESS you are doing Tradeskills.  But, if you are already doing tradeskills, then your brain is big enough to get an idea of what the other selections offer.

Now…. What you really came here for….
AA Priority (Healer Edition)

It can be argued for countless hours about which AA one should prioritize over another……. HOURS!  I already spend more time focused on this game than I should. I’m not about to sit here and listen to a 2-part debate on why ‘Crit-Healing Chance’ is better than ‘Crit-Healing Amount’. As far as I’m concerned, getting capped AA’s should be the primary goal. Alas, I know not all of us have that kind of time, so, keeping that in mind, do your best to fulfill the following AA’s to their cap. Trust me. Your heal parse will go up and you will make Parse-NeckBeard-Hardcore-Raider-Guy happy. Or, at least get them off your nuts about it. CAP THAT SHIT!

You may be wondering why some AA are bold and in red. Well, that is because, as a Raiding Druid, those 4 abilities should be capped and hotkey’d before you join any raid. Those 4 AA can turn the tide on heavy inducing Debuff / AoE damage Fights.

All other AA’s can be capped in whatever order you prefer, but if you want my stupid opinion about it; Just go down the list. Again, you will want to top off all of these AA as soon as possible. (This can be easily done during an EXPERIENCE BONUS weekend!) You cap these AA and hit all the buttons during a raid, I GAY-RUN-TEA you, your Healing Parse will go up by 33.33% or some shit like that.
